Which alum arrow for Phoenix
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:56:06 PM »
Hi Gang!
I'm new to the forum.  I am getting an Excaliber Phoenix and was wondering what Easton aluminum shaft to get.  I've built my own arrows when I shot a compound bow-but health now does not allow that now.  I would like to use a Spitfire 100gr expandable if possible, but I'm open to all suggestions.  I will use this crossbow for hunting, mostly deer in N.J. and bear out of state.  Thanks!  Bob Lintner

Try 2216 or a little heavier 2219

BuzzardII sorry for the late responce, been busy. I am in the process of building two dozen bolts for a phoenix and a crossmen teton. I have played with the carbon shafts and tiny vanes and am not happy with flight and groups. I then went to easton 2216 razor shafts and flex fletch extreme 360 vanes and had so so groups. Extreme 360 vanes are great for my predator but a wast of money for the much slower phoenix and teton. I resorted to using 5" dura vanes and couldent be any happier with the groups I am getting. The finished bolts are 421 grains and steer a 100 grain fixed blade carbon express quad pro broadhead like a field point out to 40. I tried the small vane light bolt thing trying to get flatter flight and just wasted my time and money doing it. The phoenix is accurate as hell but no speed demon at 268fps average with this bolt combo but I can repeat any shot over and over. As luck has it you can go to eaglearchery.com and buy the 2216 razor shafts on clearance for $1.58 each and the 5" dura vanes for 5 cents a piece. Heads up the nocks will be backorderd as mine are as im typing this. Shop around for the nocks and you can find AAE nocks for 2216 in the $8.00 a hundred. I use moon nocks even with the excalibur that calls for flat nocks. Good luck my friend.
