Winter kill?
« on: February 09, 2011, 04:40:20 AM »
I was just wondering how the winter is in Montana and more specifically, has there been much winter kill to the herds?

Kinda like the winters of old.  Still had Ice banks here in Billings where the drifts had melted down to solid ice, then Monday we got what looks like about 7", hard to tell as the wind has been moving it around.  Picture in the Billings Gazette a while back showing a Pronghorn in the NE part of the state standing in the snow with just it's eyes and ears above the snow.  People snowed in their houses with the snow drifted up to the eaves.  Another story in the paper about Pronghorn killed by a train as they were along the tracks to stay out of the deep snow.  Total of 270 killed out right, or had to be put down from the injuries.  With the winter and the wolves, could be some hard hunting next fall.  Gotcha one of these 444 Handi's yet? DP

That is a tough story about those speed goats.  I think anti hunters should see how pathetic and sad starving critters look before they open their mouths about how cruel hunting is.
DP, I have been looking (half heartedly) for a Handi 444, but I need to keep telling myself that I am not a gun collector. Somehow, my Marlin collection keeps getting bigger.   ::)
