Federal Government is too big and redundent.
« on: January 21, 2011, 11:25:29 AM »
Every state is charged with managing the Fish and Wildlife within it's borders.  Courts have said the states have jurisdiction over all wildlife within it's borders except National Parks.  National Parks are handled by the Park Service.  So why do we have a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  USFAW are constantly getting in the way and interfeering with the way the states are running their programs.  U.S. Fish and Wildlife needs to go away.

Every State is charged with educating the children within that state.  The States deligate that action down to each county/parish/ or bourough.  But the State is ultimately responsiable.  Again why is there a U. S. Dept of Education?  The states were doing fine, and in some cases better before this dept came into being.  Another case of the Federal Government sticking it's nose in where it is not needed.

These two Departments each hire thousands of workers, and their budgets are in the billions.  Just two areas where the Federal Government could make some serious cuts.  I'm sure there are others, but cuts in these areas are not going to happen I'm afraid.  They will continue to spend billions needlessly.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Absolutely. What has our dept. of energy done for us as well? The money they have received from their inception could possibly have been enough to put solar panels and wind power on alot of residences in our nation. Or gone to repair and update our delapidated grid system.

So many un-constitutional agencies in our gov't.  There's alot of defunding that could/SHOULD be done.

I really want to say well duh!!!  :D but thats not polite. Government is way out of hand.

The Department of Energy was originally created to find alternatives to dependence on foriegn oil. You can see how well that worked.

Government spends way too much money, has many redundancies and is like the fabled hydra. It is a beast that is way out of control.

Sourdough, your just now fingering this out?  I'ld like to know why each state has to be broken up into dozens or more different school districts each with their own gang of officers and officials collecting big salaries.  Couldn't it be handled by one statewide governing body?

Hey Sourdough, closer to home for you, what do you think of the new study that says UAF Admin is overstaffed by 60-80 people?  Thats a lot of folks for Fairbanks.

One other thing about FWS, at times I think they intercept funds that should go to State Fish and Game agencies.  I don't understand it well at all but that's the impression I get.

A long time ago in Oregon we found a card that said Department of Redundancy Department.  Gave it to my dad who was working at the Corps of Engineers at the time.  That card hangs over my desk now.

Dand, I think the study is right.  Anytime I go there I see a bunch of people sitting around doing nothing but shooting the bull.  My son needed a form filled out concerning his grades for the Marine Corps.  First he carried the form in and was told "We don't do that".  He argued with the person saying you did it last semester, he said no we did not we don't do those, "get out, I'm not telling you again".  So Sky came home and called asking to talk to the head of the department.  She told him yes we do fill out those forms, bring it in and leave it at the front desk.  When Sky told her the front desk had refused to accept it, and told him to get out, she refused to accept that and told him to just bring it to her and she would take care of it.  The form only took three to five minutes to fill out, but it took them three weeks to get it back to him.  Anywhere you go on campus you will see at least three people sitting in every office, with usually only one doing anything.

Brett:  No I figured that out a long time ago, I just now decided to say something about it.

You know I have to agree with you guys, but until we stop complaining about it and actually do something about it,  nothing will happen.  Government will keep getting bigger and spending more money until this country basically collapses, then it won't matter what U.S. dept there is because there will be chaos.
