First semi auto handgun
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:57:45 PM »
For years I have been a revolver guy and have owned many. I've always thought about a semi auto and 1911's were the only ones I was ever interested in. So at 54 yrs old I finally took the plunge and went shopping. I put a limit on myself of 8-900 bucks. I handled a few but finally decided on a Sig XO 1911. It was between that and a Para that I saw earlier but they didn't have any more in stock and that one was gone. I was also intrigued by the Taurus for almost 200 less. But I just seemed to like the Sig more.I paid 859 and really don't know if I could have done better somewhere els. But I have dealt with this gun shop since the early 80's. The salesman for their handguns seemed really high on Sig 1911's . But now I have read that they aren't that reliable. A friend said I should have gotten a S&W or a Para Ordinance.
What is your experience with the XO? How does it compare to the Smith or the Para?

Well you were right, this Sig 1911 is reliable
Ive put more than 400 rounds through this gun and had one failure to feed with a handload.  It was definittely magazine related because it functioned fine when transfering the rounds to the other mag.  Since then I changed my overall length from 1.235 to 1.245 and ran 40 shots with no hitches from either magazine.
This is the most fun Ive had shooting in a long time.

The quality is appreciated more after the remberance of the price is forgotten----well unless you got a lemon---then that re-enforces the purchase of quality the next time.

How you looked after you shot your Sig.

I load to 1.260" with Hardball. Enjoy your fabulous firearm. Great Choice. :)

the other day I ran 100 Berry's plated through it at 1.265 over all length and all went through without a hitch. I tried about 10 first to see if the gun would take that length and was confident because Magtech factory are about that length. So far this gun isnt very fussy about OAL.
