Warne Maxima base
« on: December 18, 2003, 11:18:01 AM »
Well, I'm not a real happy camper right now.    I installed my Warne Maxima bases and QD rings, took the gun out in 28 degree snow to sight in.  First shot was two feet to the left and about a foot low.  Moved scope shot again, about 4 inches low and 5 inches to left.  On the reload for the third shot, while looking down the top of the barrel at  the objective of the scope, I noticed it was sitting to the right.  Took it all apart.  The holes in the base seem to be oversized for the screws and it lets the base move side to side.  Are all the Maxima bases like this or did I get a dud?  With the screws just snug I can move the base about 1/16" side to side.  For the price of this....well....Help!

No, they sure aren't all like that-- no problems here with the last 14 sets or so. I don't know the rifle you are referring to, or where the bases came from-- but, yes . . . sounds like you just got the wrong base screws, etc.

Warne rings work fine with Weaver Grand Slam bases, any std. Weaver base. Sounds like you just got a bum set of bases.

Always frustrating, but doesn't sound like anything a new set of screws won't take care of.

Frustrating, I agree! :(   Upon further inspection of the base, it seems that the base has a high spot in the center.  I know the base sits off the barrel at the front, but this high spot is between the mount holes.  I used a straight edge to check the mounting surface on the base, and the straight edge rocks back and forth.  This is what it does on my barrel.  I'll have to check with Warne tomorrow to see what they say.
