It has long been recognized that the North did all it could to lose by the clerks they had as Generals. As the war wore on and able directors came to the front the war took its normal and predetermined course.
As at Gettesburg--should the South have won THAT battle---there were 300,000 troops behind them.
To be very honest about this war--the South was led into this war by some self-serving folks--as self-serving as some of the folks in the North you claim, were.
Wars are rarely brought on by the general population. Special interest groups whip up a steam to serve private purposes that the generalpopulation never receives any benefit from. WWII may have been the exception, in America---that jury has never been convened.

Romance is fine and fun but the south never had a chance.  They were well equiped all the way util the end of the war and had the best generals.  What they didn't have was manpower.  The north farted around for 4 years snd the decided to squash the rebellion.

Read your history.  Old wives tales don't get it.
