« on: January 30, 2011, 07:06:03 AM »
In the back of my little pea sized brain, I keep thinkin I read about some one using LilGun in the Maxie. :-\  Did a search on it, got PO'ed as I couldn't find anything anything about it, Yelled at the computer, dogs and kids, then thought I better ask for help.  Am I totally wrong on this or did someone mention it?  Now, about the search function, AARRGG!!! >:(, I can never get what I want out of using the damn thing.  Always get so much stuff, impossible to find what I'm lookin for. :'(  Guess I need to stick with books.  DP

Thanks guys, I had read the one you posted Dinny, but I thought we had a post here on GBO on using it as well.  Anyway, still a good way to spend a cold snowy day in Montana, reading about the Maxie, oh, and the 38-55 on Hobie's site.  Thanks for the link to that Tim.  Gonna have to clean out the ol file cabinet, (brain), to try to retain things a little better.  Looking thru the powder lockers yesterday, I see I have about 10 # of LilGun settin there.  I really like it in the 357 Mag and heavy 45 colt loads, but hear that Freedom Arms recommends not using it in their revolvers, and John Linebaugh said he has seen it damage forcing cones on revolvers as well. :'(  I was hoping to use it in rifles and not run into problems with that.  Again, thanks for the responses guys.  DP

Before getting my AA1680 I loaded a half dozen rounds of 21grs. LiL Gun and 180 SSP's and see no sign of excessive pressure.

Not to digress from the thread ......

What is the "best" powder for the .357 Maxi?

I realize of course opinions may vary ......

I have some Lil'gun I was going to try a few 180 grain Speer silhouette-type bullets with in my newly aquired Handi-Maxi barrel.  Data I found was from a "Maxi" hunter in Indiana who's convinced his family the Maxi is their 'special Indiana deer round!'  He even has a Ruger #1 in the Maxi.

Lots of people using AA1680 with success. Here is a link where some suggestions are given.
