.223 twist rate

was wondering if there was a way to tell twist rate on these rifles by using serial number or something.  or should i just compare it to my 22-250 with a 1 in 12 twist?

Mine's a new one with the checkered synthetic stock and a CBA serial number and is one in nine.  See the twist rates in the FAQs, and how to measure it.

I have seen 223s in 1/6 1/7 1/9 1/12 1/14.

Older H&R 223s are 1:12, newer than 2005 will be 1:9 or :1:12", 2007 and later are all 1:9", see the FAQs twist rate list and instructions to check yours, that's the only way to know for sure, H&R has no record of what twist they used during the transition years. If it's an extractor, it's likely a 1:9", but not necessarily because they switched back and forth for a while.
