Absolutely not. It is not the mission of our government or the military to globe trot trying to impose our way of life onto others. Furthermore they are bound Constitutionally too "butt out". Constitutionally the only government business we have in other nations is that of trade, and in matters of defense to retaliate or defend from acts of war.

Shouldn't the concept of rights and law,a magna carta, be introduced first; Before any attempts to change a form of government? Why do we always hear of bringing democracy? Shouldn't it be heard as  bringing a repulic form of government?

Would another nation after seeing the revocation of our Constitutional rights under the guise of things like the Patriot Act, taxation for social services and foreign aid (taking from you to give to them), be so eager to adopt our ways? Seems to me alot of countries already have a democracy (mob rule).

By the way, that link, very good  description of basic forms of governments. Right away I thought it should be scheduled viewing in schools from about 6th grade social studies on up through high school history and government classes. Thanks for posting!

When I was a child, I too was indoctrinated to believe we are a Democracy.  These days, I shudder when I hear someone (especially politicians) refer to America as a Democracy.  We have been so indoctrinated by schools, media and the like.

So right! I shudder to think of all the times I have heard the phrase, "But we're a democracy"! or its similar equivelent. I have spoke to my childrens teachers at times (when they were in school). Pretty fair amount seem not to want to have that discussion with an adult.  ???  ;)

I don't think it is our place in the word to be trying to enact our "views" on other societies, especially when we can even get stuff right at home.

I say no. Not our job. As long as they don't harm us- let them be. I feel the same about pushing a certain religion. NOT MY JOB MAN.

No.  Democracy can hurt them.  Would be nice to let them see how a republic works, but since we are losing ours, there is nothing for them to see at this time.

We shouldn't even promote democracy here.
Democracy is the kissing cousin of socialism.
What should be promoted is Liberty and Free Market Capitalism.

In reality 50% plus 1 is not a mandate. A pure democracy would mean we all vote on every issue.  We have a ''democracy'' at the citizen voting level. Our form of government is a Republic. I wish the President, Senatorial and House leaders would learn to use the word. You can tell when those who begin ''In our democracy.......'' they have a socialist agenda.
  This nation has never been closer to losing our freedoms. Many of us remember John Kennedy say we would ''oppose any foe, support any friend and pay any price'' to encourage democracy.   Years later we abandoned South Vietnam.  Are we better off for all we have spent in foreign aid around the world ? And, are those people better off ?
   Is Haiti better off a year after a year of aid following the earthquake ?
