Which trigger would you pick?
« on: December 11, 2010, 04:58:35 PM »
Sorry if this has been asked a million times but anyways: Winchester model 70, Jewell, Timney or Rifle Basix. The Timney & Basix are pretty much drop in, not sure about the Jewell. I can't stand the 1/4" of play in the factory trigger anymore.

Neither. Find a 'smith who can tune the factory one properly and you'll find happiness. Unless you've got to have less than a pound pull. Then buy the Jewell.

I agree with above. The Model 70 already has a great trigger, you just need it adjusted properly. I don't know about the brand new model 70s, but any of the Winchester we all know model 70s are good to go. You can even look up some web instructions.

The M70 trigger also doesn't have the one fault common to all those you mentioned, a dirt catching housing. While it is a bit more trouble adjust than those you mentioned it is open and easier to keep clean. It cannot be safely taken too light but if this is a hunting rifle then 3 pounds is about as light as one should go..

Just an update on the trigger not that anybody cares but somebody else might be in the same boat as me. I finally had a gunsmith work the trigger and it is swweeetttt. He took it a little lower than I wanted it, down to 2 1/2  I wanted 3 or a hair more. But I am glad you guys said to have it worked over, I saved money and it's all still original (kinda). Not even a tiny amount of creep now, crisp as can be. Thanks guys.

Glad it all worked out.. The M70 trigger is a wonderful design. It has a few idiosyncracies but is really sold. I still don't know what gat into the minds of those guys a Winchester? The new trigger can't be better..probably just cheaper to make.. It's a shame..
