Gun Show Find
« on: February 05, 2011, 02:47:01 PM »
I bought a sack of interesting bullets at the gun show today for $19.00. They are marked Colorado Custom Bullets .375 350 grains American Fork Utah.....I guess they predate Barnes Bullets.

"1974: Randy and Coni Brooks purchased Colorado Custom Bullets and began producing copper-tube-jacketed lead core bullets in American Fork, Utah. The following year, Fred Barnes spends several months consulting with the new owners, who acquire rights to use the Barnes name."

The bullet weight was handwritten and hard to read.  I checked them with my scale this AM and they weighed 250 which I prefer.  100 bullets for $19.00 seemed like a deal and the jackets look handturned on the base.  They were kind of rough looking, but a trip through the tumbler cleaned them up nice.

I have a Leupold VX-II 3-9X40 that I'm going to mount on my .375H&H Remington 700BDL.  I got a set of RCBS dies including a trim die yesterday for $15.00.

;) Some IMR 4350, and you are set..I assume this will be your hog gun in Fla... :) With a 270 grain Horn. rn, and IMR 4350, it will flatten whitetails in fine style....just a thought..hard to have a gun in the safe with no immediate use... 8)

Back when the wife and I had the photography business, I met Bill Stiggers (SP?) of Bitterroot Bullets.

His wife, Mary, a delightful lady, was also a photographer, so Bill would tag along to some of the Photographers meetings.

For as long as I knew Bill, he was always in a "retooling" mode with his line of hand bonded/soldered bullets, and I don't think he ever did get back into production.

Back in older pubications, Bitterroot bullets were mentioned right along with Nosler Partitions, so guess they were quite good although expensive even back then.

It was said that Bill was seen at area gun shows buying his own bullets off the tables as he apparently wasn't getting any made even for his own use.

Interesting!

Keep em coming!
