Don't like Ruger long guns, don't like detachable magazines, & their new Scout is very heavy from what I've read.
I held one the other day.
The rifle is a standard rifle with a few gizmos on it, like the bird cage flash hider.
The rifle weight comes from the laminated stock. Any of the laminated stocks are usually heavier than a solid wood or a plastic.
A little less weight than the Remington 700 SPS tactical rifle that was in the rack next to it in the heavy plastic stock.
But both rifle were 8 ounces of each other.
The idea of a mag hanging is a hit or miss, and having a detachable mag is hit or miss with some.
As a hunting rifle I want a fixed mag. nothing to loose or drop.
Tactical rifle implies more ammo and getting it into the gun quickly. You are going to have multiple mags.
Always thought if you cleaned up and lightened up an Enfield No 4 it would make a good tactical rifle.
Fast action (even if it is a cock on close) the ability to use either detachable mags or stripper clips.
Accuracy is reasonable and the flip up adjustable sights were good for longer ranges.
And B Square makes a scope mount for the rifle that will make it a little more accurate. Until the price of 303 went up I was using mine for a military style shoot at the old club. Scores were not great but not too shabby either.
Adding a few more modern items like a Harris bipod too could help.
On the flip side AI like the way the Remington SPS tactical looks and mounting a 6X38 scope on it would make a great deer stand rifle.
