What High Capacity 9mm
« on: January 20, 2011, 02:50:03 AM »
I do not own a high capacity 9mm handgun.  I want to purchase one before they may limit magazine capacity.  It needs to have the smallest grip possible as my wife might use it.  I also want one with the least expensive magazines.  I also want it to be reliable.  Glocks have too large a grip for me, so it will not be considered.  I also want one that is the best for the lowest cost.  Which one?

If cost really is an issue decide on the gun and just purchase the mags right now. $500 worth of mags would net a nice profit if you are correct (and I think you are wrong by several years and possibly more), allowing you to purchase the gun for a trade of a few of those mags! I would not spend a dollar on anything less than factory mags, an exception being made for Mec Gar.

Okay now my opinion on handgun. The wife is pleased with her Springfield XD9sc. It will accept the longer 16 rd mags and XD has a filler which makes it comfortable to shoot. I believe I gave $35 for extra mags. The XDm 9mm takes a 19 round mag if I remember correctly. I have not held one so can't comment on the grip size. The M&P smith is very similar I have not studied the specs though. My wife liked them both. I think the Smith even felt better to her, in the end she liked the loaded chamber indicator on the XD and cost was a bit less as well.

I have a bunch of 9mm pistols and the one with the smallest grips is the Taurus 24-7 and it also is one of the least expensive pistols on the market.  Mine is very reliable not having had a single stopage since I got it.  I have handled the new Ruger SR 9 and it is not bad as are the XDs.  If you want a good solid pistol and really do not want to spend a lot of money look for a Hugarian copy of the Browning High power.  I have one I picked up used for $250 and Mags are among the least expensive as long as you do not buy Browning made ones.  They can be had in 13 and 15 shot sizes.

I have short, stubby fingers and small hands and get along great with the XD series of pistols.  I have shot a Ruger SR9 and it felt nice, they now make a compact model too.  We have a couple of guys shooting the S&W M&P 9's and they have a decent grip too.  I never could get along with the Glock's grip size either.

I would say any major gun manufacturer of 9mm handguns would be fine.  Springfield, Ruger,S&W any of them would be fine.  Good quality, accuracy you can't go wrong.

I have a Ruger SR9c, but the mags are not cheap, my wife likes the way it feels also. The 17 round mags extend the grip, and the wife liked it better than the 10 round mags.

I had a Kal-Tek 9 mm, but it was a handful for my wife, as it was light and the grips was very thin, mags we not very expensive, but the capacity is low as well.

I am very new to the center fire autoloader playing field. Not shooting, but handling a lot of firearms before purchasing, I bought a Beretta PX4 , Type F in 9mm and it fits my small hands much better than anything I tried. Just don't let the salesperson get lazy and not let you try all three interchangeable backstraps. The sidearm comes with two 17 round mags.
