No. 1 Field Carriage
« on: February 06, 2011, 05:39:53 AM »
Back at the beginning of December, with the aid of Double D, I managed to get hold of a set of AOP plans for a quarter scale 3” Parrott Rifle on a No. 1  Field Carriage.

The photo’s bellow shows work in progress on how far I have got with this project.

Looking good!!!!  Glad I was able to help

The can helps perspective.

What barrel are you putting on this carriage?

Are you going to build your own wheels?

Rotunda,
A #1 carriage can be quite challenging.  There is a lot of metal work to be done.  Did you make your axle?

Hi Double D

I have rough turned a steel barrel for a 3” Parrott and am still trying to work out how to drill the bore, although I won’t be allowed to fire it.
As you can see in the photo’s, the trunnion’s are finished and ready to be screwed into the barrel.
Yes I am going to build the wheels my own wheels. I have machined the felloes oversize so that when I fit the spokes and everything comes together I can finish turn the wheels to size.

Zulu,
Yes I made the Axle, in fact I made the steel Axle in three parts with an Oak trough over the steel.
