Sorry, but that's really bad advice! Many times the mere presence of a gun has been enough of a deterrent that using it wasn't necessary. Speaking from personal experience here. Certainly a more desirable outcome than the use of lethal force. It should be a given that if you draw your weapon, you should call the police without delay and report the incident. Anytime you have to draw, you should be prepared to use it if necessary, but not an absolute requirement.
