politicos take an oath to insure they will uphold and defend the Constitution, this dunkin guy is breaking his oath for suggesting this. he owes ALL gun owners one million until he can insure that he will abide by and honor his oath. This guys a real putz. Even if they pass it I would not comply, it quite obviously infringes on my right.

Pat/Rick, the only problem there is that the government can't give something to someone without first taking it away from someones else. If I did that, it would be called theft. Yet, when the government does it, it is "legalized theft".  Very few people today would think of it as immoral, but if anyone takes anyone else's life, liberty or property, isn't that immoral?

GaryG, absolutely, trying to illustrate the folly with such an idea. Would have been better to compare a proposed tax on our other rights listed in the BOR's,  worship insurance, speech/press insurance, parade(assemble) insurance.

 But then, wouldn't be the first time the gov't squashed the Constitution to trample on others rights. I live it everyday in the "Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area".

BUGEYE. Me too. I was raised in ILL, have most of my family there. I wrote the gov and told him who I was, where I lived, phone # and social sec # and told him that I had a ccw in KY and had been investigated by the fbi, state police, and locals in addition to being trained in the proper use of firearms. Then I invited him to have me thouroughly investigated by his own people. After the results came back with high marks I wanted him to explain why I can legally carry in most States of the union while Ill sees me as a criminal. In reply I got a questionaire asking what suggestions I might have for the state govt. I replied, QUIT TREATING ME LIKE A CRIMINAL. No response. We go there about once a month to see Mom and family, Mom has cancer. I stop at the first exit on I64 and lock my 38 in the trunk. YEP, I know what ya mean about  ILL. POWDERMAN.

Yea, I thought you were probably jesting. I was just using it as a teaching point that government can't give something to someone without first taking it away from someones else.  It needs to be repeated over and over. I think you and I are on the same page; anyway, I like your posts.

The Supreme Court has not ruled yet about whether the Govt can compel citizens to purchase an item or service. If the Govt is allowed to compel you to purchase health insurance it will surely extend to other mandatory purchases.  Never in the Nation's history has the Govt sought this ability.

Offhand I would say that forcing citizens to do just about anything is tyranny isn't it?  If the courts rule that it is within their ability, there will be no limit to the oppression we could be subject too. Was that the intention of the basis for our Constitution?

   However, local governments have already mandated that very ideal upon states citizens. Do we not HAVE to have auto insurance? Do we not Have to have marriage licenses? CCW permits,drivers licenses, etc,etc. This decision could be based on that. If so, extending that right to the Fed, could it have the impact of further intrusion and control  on states rights?

 At some point in time we have seen our government go from governing within the constraints of the Constitution to, " well, the Constitution doesn't say we can't,so"........

I don't know that I'm a republicrat or a demican so much, as a Constitutionalist with a libertarian slant maybe? Either way or description I come to the thought that, gooberment ought to just about butt out and back off by about 90% of what they have meddled in, and absolutely fouled up since our nations beginning.

I'd say the insurance lobby has gotten to the BHO admin, etc.. If they can require you to have insurance to operate a vehicle they can probably require you to have a insurance to own and operate a firearm....that's how it works.

Who does the banking conglomerates use for short term loans??  The insurance industry. Who's paying cash to build sports stadiums? The insurance industry. What, even geico advertises 40 million customers, 40 million sending in monthly payment of $50 to a couple of hundred buck a month??  Insurance companies lobbyists are a very real threat to liberty in this day when money talks and B., well, you get the picture.

Federal Judge in Florida recently ruled the health care law as unconstitutional because congress can regulate interstate commerce not the lack of it. His statement was congress cannot require a person to purchase anything under penalty of law. Unless of course they change the constitution.

This is of course all ready being challenged by the white house.

Car insurance is different than health insurance. There is no penalty for not having car insuarance, there is a penalty for driving without car insurance though.

Our founders were quite familiar with Locke, Voltaire, Rousseau and others reasoning. In some ways, they were better educated than we are today. What better way to protect life, liberty and property than to be armed? The second amendment adjudicated what was already a right.

i agree with that. i believe the  only reason for gun controil is  total control over the people. they don't care how many people kill other people if they did the southern border would be secured the gangs would be put down and abortion would be outlawed
