Woke up to 23 with wind chill of 11 here in San Antonio.  Not too bad since I spent the last 5 years in Germany but, and it's a big BUT...  we packed all our heavy winter clothes up in boxes and they are on the bottom of about a half of a two car garage full of furniture and boxes.  Thought we wouldn't need them in SA...  Still have enough for quick trips out but not enough to stay warm out there.

Biggest realization finally hit my wife... the power company isn't here to keep you warm.  She saw the blurb on the news this morning about rolling blackouts in Dallas.  Then she said, "how can they do that?"  Duh... there isn't enough electricity to heat a gazillion all-electric homes.  So right then I got her tio commit to a couple things when we move for retirement.

Wood stove
Gas or propane heat also
Gas or propane water heater supplemented with solar water heat
Gas or propane cooking

Sure hope she remembers this conversation in a few months.

No Guns:  Don't forget a small Generator.  It's nice to keep the Refrigarator running.

We are used to having power outages that might last for hours to days.  I have two Generators that will run my oil fired boiler, and kitchen appliances.  (Microwave, Toaster Oven, and Refer).  Enough fire wood outside to last for a couple of months solid if needed.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

It is down right cold here in Abilene, TX, got down to 5 last night.

As said, "if you don't like the weather in Texas just stick around, it will change tomorrow".........somewhat true, it was in the low 70s this past Saturday, the sleet and snow started Monday night but we should see a warming to about 50 by the end of the week.

Theres some photos of the damage around my grandparents place in town, hopefully it will work.  We ened up with about a 1/2inch  of ice on everything, lost power for about 3 hours and the interent, phone, and tv for about 14 hours.  damage inside the house from the surge with the powerlines went down and arced was the fridge, washer, dryer, deep freeze and 3 surge protectors, one both are PC's and the tv.  Amazing how 150 bucks can save $10,000.

Well, so far I'm surviving.  :) It didn't get as bad here as predicted but bad enough. 1/4" of ice with 6 inches of snow on top. It's 10 degrees out right now. I made it out and into town and back. Got a few things we needed. Our driveway is about 1/2 mile long and on about a 40 degree incline. My car is now stuck half way up it.  ::) Oh well, it can sit there till it thaws. Was fun carrying stuff in though. We have food, I ordered a new Fobus Evelution 2 holster for my PF-9, we have food and drink and I got my guitar to pass the time. Bought it when I was 14 and it's even been to war and back with me. Life is good.  ;D Temps are supose to really drop tonight but staying inside till warmer weather!  ;)

Here's a couple pics I took today.

My car stuck half way up my driveway;

A pic of my house taken from the road;

Bought this Univox when I first turned 14, 43 years ago. They are collectable nowadays but I carried this to war and back and it's always been the best of friends and to me is priceless. Shined a heck of a lot of shoes and collected a ton of pop bottles to pay for it. $364.00 in 1967.  When I'm gone it goes to my youngest daughter.  :D

Sounds like typical MN weather to me. Y'all need a little more insulation in your houses. At least it will all melt away for ya in a week.

Not sure what our official snow accumulation was here but we had drifts as high as 6 foot around the house.
I drove down close to Laredo Tx yesterday the the roads were pretty much a mess all the way south of Ft. Worth.
I have been all over this country and those knot heads in the DFW area are the worst drivers I have ever seen on slick roads.
They usually get 2-3 bad ice storm down there per year you'd think they would develop some skills. ;D
I drove back this morning the early morning traffic was rolling about 15 mph lucky for me they stayed out of the hammer lane where I blew by them doing about 30 mph. Except for the occasional suicidal types in 4x4s and SUVs who were flying low and weaving and ducking through the mess.
By the way SUV stands for Sometimes Upsidedown Vehicle.   4x4 is actually a mathematical equation which is 16 giving you the exact number to remove from the octane rating of wet cement to find the IQ rating of most 4x4 drivers.
I love winter weather "Positively Entertaining"  ;D

The ice has already caused big problems OF. The snow is a welcome change. It's supposed to break maybe tomorrow. Down here the state and counties and cities don't have any equipment to deal with it. Given the last two years, maybe they should look into it. But then again our little town doesn't have the money to fix the streets.

This is me gloating a little bit, but not too much, because we are supposed to be in for some showers today, tomorrow and Sunday.  However, the temp is supposed to be in the middle fifties and the sun will be back on Monday.  Oh well, it is still winter.

They don't do much north of the Red either Dee.
I haven't seen any of the street dept. or road crews out.
The ODOT guys took pretty of the hiways, but that's about it.
