.44 mag load
« on: February 05, 2011, 06:29:08 AM »
I need a load for 255gr Cast Performance WNFP bullets. I've searched and haven't had any luck. There's a bear in my area and I'd like a load for my 629 Powerport. Thanks, Dave

As you want to shoot 255 gr cast try researching some loads for 250 gr jacketed. The cast have less drag producing less pressure so you should be good with a 250 gr jacketed load. We want pics if you bust that bear with your hogleg.

Thanks for the reply. If I bust the bear it will be a case of "have to" because it is out of season. It was on a neighbor's back porch last week. I saw the track and it is over 200 pounds going by the track.

If you are using H110/W296, keep the loads close to max.  If you don't need the most speed possible, try 2400 or another slightly faster powder.  For a bear that size using that bullet, you won't need all the speed the 44 will produce, something around 1200 fps should work well.  DP

Thanks for the replies. 2400 looks the best.
