ONE PIECE BARREL
« on: February 20, 2011, 03:50:32 AM »
My lack of knowledge shows clearly here.
What is this business about one piece barrels on S&W---I think I understand the pinned---maybe not.
Bring me up to speed.

Some of the newer revolvers are made with a 2 piece barrel (barrel and a barrel shroud). They might be considered as beign a cousin to the way Dan Wesson barrels are. They can't be changed by the user like on a DW. The 329PD & 340PD are like that with an aluminum shroud over a steel barrel.
I've seen a very few comments on different forums about some of these 2 piece barrels breaking.
The reference to one piece barrels is probably due to this.

IIRC, the two piece barrels are supposed to make manufacturing more efficient. I too have not heard many, if any, complaints regarding them being a problem. I have heard a couple folks they think they are cosmetically challenged :P Kind of like my feeling of full under-lug barrels.

Well, Thanks---with this information and $1.50 I can get coffee at a few places like McDonalds.
I like underlugged barrels---if that doesn't start a flame.  :-[ :-X ;)

I like'em too. They do add a bit of weight.
