GUN RIG FOR THR "N" FRAME
« on: January 31, 2011, 11:19:06 PM »
If this is of help to anyone, Here is what I have found.
I have found two folks that are willing to do custom rigs for the N frame.
Black Hills Leather in Laredo and Ross Leather will do custom work.

Here is what I am having done & my thinking.
I wanted a 3 inch strap and a high carry.
Why a 3 inch strap? Well, the 28 is a heavy gun and it is uncomfortably and insecure carrying it "my way", without a scabbard.
The strap is more secure and can be taken off without undressing. I will be getting a Minimal Slide holster for the four inch barrel.
The strap is the Texan---if you look at the web site. I will have sterling hardware on the strap--all floral carved WITHOUT shell loops.
The gun should fit comfortably, high on my side---also easies the carry.
Rudy has good reputation.
Anywho---any who have been looking for something special and some custom work---here are two options.
Blessings

William,

El Paso saddlery in El Paso Texas has quite a few nice rigs that work well with N frames. My favorite is the Tom Threeperson style holster with a wide belt.   :o

That is fancy stuff there.... :) used to carry my 28 on duty with a K frame holster that stretched nicely for the 28. It actually gave it more elevation which was good. The adjustable thumb strap helped too. I killed two deer with my 28 a couple of years ago and simply put the gun in my side pocket of my BDU pants.... worked well. What would be good would be a belt with 7 speedloader loops instead of cartridge loops.  :D

They would not alter a holster to fit a 3 inch belt---the one you mentioned was the only one that works and I wanted a Yaqui----they said no.
Rudy at Black Hills is easy to work with.
The guy at Ross is in South Africa and he wanted to do it--said he liked doing custom---I am going to remember his name for another project.

PS---YUP! Fancy was what I was going for. More fun.

I lived about 10 miles from them a few years ago, & they did all kinds of custom work for me. I know the owner Bobby died so maybe their policy has changed. Been a while since I ordered anything from them.

Yup---that was the dad. As one of my friends told me when i was about to contact them----The old man was a dream to work with, the son took public relations under Stalin.
I might add the same comment to another gunsmith I tried to work with recently.
