scope mounting
« on: February 10, 2011, 08:49:00 AM »
I have a mossberg 195 that I have been shooting slugs out of with great accuracy. I would like to mount a scope/red dot to this gun .
I need to know if there is any way to mount a scope base using the 3/8 dovetail allready on the gun . I dont want to d/t the gun , because  I only paid $ 15.00 for it in the first place .

Go to bsquare.com and see if they sell a mount for your shotgun. They make mounts that do not need drill and tap.

I don't know what you have in mind from a machine shop but having the gun drilled and tapped for a weaver style base and mount the scope with standard  rings would be very simple.. and it wouldn't compromise the strength of the action as they lock on the bolt handle root. Machine shop time is very expensive and there is usually a 1 hour minimum..

the reason that i mentioned a machine shop was to have a scope rail made that would fit into the 3/8 dovetail that is allready on the gun . this would give me the ability to mount a red dot or I/R scope and not have the action drilled . I have a shop that will do it for about $ 50 bucks when they shut down for maintenance in a few weeks . just didnt know if there was something out there that allready was made

I'm confused.  Is the "3/8 dovetail allready on the gun" milled into the reciever or a screwed on scope base.  Hard to believe the factory would have used a 3/8" dovetail on a shorgun.

Many folks make one inch rings that fit on a 3/8  dovetail. The last ones I bought were Burris Zee.The RWS ones have a recoil stop for the unique pellet gun recoil. Don't know how well this type will hold up to slug recoil. Weaver makes an adapter that clamps right on the dovetail, put your favorite weaver style rings over it.
