Ruger #3 sight and stock?
« on: February 08, 2011, 03:36:44 PM »
Is there a peep sight for the Ruger #3 that is not drill and tap? Can you put a #1 forearm on a #3?(with out lots of mods?)
Thanks

NECG would be a likely source if anyone makes the sight.  There are a number of #3 rifles around with #1 wood, that they call a #2 (not officially).  I put a #1 beavertail on a #3 once to see how it looked and it fit fine.  Didn't look good though.  Still, some fitting may be needed in any case of swapping stocks.

I had a NECG Ruger peep, it fits on the scope mount cuts, and it is a nice piece of work. IIRC I got it directly, but Brownells has them too.
It wasnt on a Ruger for me (a custom application) and went with the gun when I sold it, so I cant attest to how it would work with the std. frt. sight. My method of checking that is to mount a peep and adjust it to look through the open sight set, then remove (or if possible, fold) the open rear.

There are or have been peeps that fit a Weaver base, which a #3 could have.

I think the peeps made for the H&R HandiRifles (Skinner and Nodakspud's, see the forum) could be mounted easily. If the base contour isnt right either maker will likely be willing to do one up for you. Both are pretty nicely made from what Ive seen and heard, and very reasonably priced.
