loads for a 45-70 trapdoor

I just bought a 1881 springfield trap door. anyone have any loads using modern smokeless powder.
The gun is in great cond. I just don't want to damage gun with to much of a load

Trail Boss, full case to the base of the bullet (about 19gr. weighed with a 405), NO compression will be a fine low pressure yet totally satisfying load for most shooting.
Of course, about 63ish gr. (or all you can get in) of FFg black powder will give you the real deal.
Ive used 19.0 to 21.0 if IMR 4227 with 300-405s and its worked well ('84 Mdl, .73SF)

27 grs Accurate 5744 and a 405 gr cast bullet shoot great.

I guess if you HAVE to shoot smokeless from it, Accurate Arms 5744 would be my recommendation.

Of course, you really should shoot real blackpowder from it, to use it as GOD intended...

I would strongly suggest referring to a reloading manual with loads for trapdoors.
