Hello;
I will be getting an Encore 209x50, blued/walnut as a Christmas present (on backorder now.) I have been reading the messages this morning, but thought a few of you veterans could give me some direct advice in regards to a couple of questions. I have never owned an in-line before, but have a T/C White Mountain Carbine and a T/C Pennsylvania Hunter flintlock. I also reload for my centerfire rifles.
1. What height scope rings should I use? I have ordered the Leupold quick detach base, and will be mounting either a 33 or 40 mm scope on the gun.
2.Is the E-Z tip extractor worth buying? How much of a job is it to install?
3. What kind of trigger pull can I expect? Should I plan to immediately send the gun for trigger work?
4. Is the cleaning drill the same as the muzzleloades I have, using hot water?
5. What is a good starting load, using 240 gr sabots? I have been using them in the White MTN., so I have plenty on hand. What else should I try when I go to buy more?
Sorry for such a long first post. This looks like an interesting sight, and I look foward to reading your advice.

Welcome to the board Will_C as for advice dont bother with the ez tip extractor just remove the one that is on the barrel and pull the primers off with your finger.On my 209-50 I have Leupold QR medium rings and base with a Bushnell 3200 elite 3x9x40 scope on it,go with a 40 brings in more light..I put a 2.5Lb. trigger spring in mine it cause the 5.5LBs. that it came with was to heavy for my taste.As for bullits I did use 240 sabots but didnt get a good group with them so, Iam using a 245gr.HPcopper-clad powerbelt with 100gr.trip7 pellets and I get a three inch group at 130yrds.I still need to get it tighter ..With the trip7 clean up is great with just hot water and no smell.

I have the same scope setup as btracker1. I use 245gn powerbelts with 120 gn of American Pioneer Cleanshot. Easiest cleaning propellant I have ever seen. The trigger on my Encore is right about 3#'s from the factory. I also have a 7m-08 barrel I put on it. I used to use sabots but the power belts are much easier to load and dont leave plastic residue in the barrel. I have also taken out the primer extractor as it is just as easy to pull the primer off with my fingernails. When I did use the 240 sabots I used 100gns of Pyrodex. What a pain in the neck to clean.

How much clearance do you guys have between the hammer and the scope with the Bushnell Elite 3-9x40. Same scope here and I've been looking at the Leupold QR mounts also, but what height? The Leupold mount selector says LOW mounts, but I don't know if it's allowing for the hammer and rear sight. :?

bukfevr I have QR medium rings by leupold and I use a hammer extention made by bellm.The scope is 1/4in. from the hammer and up front its 1/8in. from the barrel, The QR rings and hammer extention works great.

Get a synthetic stock.

They crack right where you thought they would......behind the hammer and under your pinky.

I'm on my second one . I love the look of the wood but if you're hunting, a 2 piece gun is pretty useless. I'm going with synthetic.

I have not measured between the scope and the hammer, but it is tight enough that I have to be careful when pulling it back with my thumb (with wool glove on) a/c my thumb could slip off. I think the extention is probably the way to go.

A total waste of money until they make'em better :cry: . They just kept breaking. :evil: Went through three of them before i quit and got my money back. Just left the original extractor in and did not put the retaining screw back in. You can even leave the extractor out. At the range I very seldom had to use a knife, mostly just flick the old primer out with your finger.

Almost forgot I used custom see- thru rings (3 of them) gets the scope up out of the way and allows you to use your iron sights when critters are too close
