Went by vans today. Looked at the standard scout type rifle (did you call it the frontier, brutus?) And the scout rifle. I was a little disappointed in the scout rifle at first because the stock was so short but there was only one spacer installed. The rifle comes with three I think. I'm not crazy about the look of the spacers in the stock but I do like the concept and adjustability. Would work for a lady, kid or a big grown man like me. The magazine is bulky but locks up tight and there is no question it is in there. I don't like the fact that you can only get a 10 round mag for it. I would think a 3-5 rounder would be better for hunting. Heck maybe one is available and the guy just didn't know. Need to research that a little more. I LOVE the picatinny scout mount rail and the iron sights/ flash suppressor. And it looks like the flash suppressor is threaded on, making it possible to install a suppressor maybe? Gotta confirm that one. Wouldn't that be sweet! I think the rifle would be right at home for hog hunting with a burris fast fire and illuminator mounted to the rifle. I liked the standard model scout rifle pretty good too. That's the one with hinged floor plate and no sights/ flash suppressor. The stock seemed to fit me better but I didn't spend much time fondling it. I don't like the fact that the ruger rings have to be used on that rifle's scout base. I like the lower capacity for hunting but don't like the fact you don't have a detachable mag. All in all I think I'd prefer the gunsite scout rifle over the other but either would be a great addition to someone's collection. And don't even get me started on the number ones they had up there. (Drool!!!!) :lol
I checked one over at a gun show here in VT yesterday. Seems like a nice piece. It handled nice. Just can't get used to a 10 shot magazine in a bolt action 308. Just looks odd. The dealer said he thought it was the only one around because a lot of other dealers were asking how he got one.
