It's Your Fault!!
« on: December 25, 2003, 02:12:01 PM »
Yes it is, don't deny it. It is your fault!! All of you!! And that's a good thing, I guess. Ya see, before CAS I was heavy into automatics and military firearms, a leftover from my former service, I guess. I mean, most of my early firearms development was done while I served in the National Guard. However, as I aged, I began to like things simpler. First bolt actions, then lever guns and single action revolvers. And then SASS found its way into my life and I sudenly found what I was missing. All you fine Cowboy Action Shooters took me in , taught me the way, made me smell like sulpher   and treated me with respect. Now, I pick up my AR-15 and it feels strange. My Bereta still thrills me, but I'm much more comfortable with my Vaquero. It seems I'm going backwards! At this rate, in a few years I'll be down ta throwin rocks! :-D  At least it'll be cheaper!  So, lets all mosey down ta the Saloon and have a drink, on me. Here's to all my friends in CAS, Merry christmas and Happy New Year!! :D

Next they'll probably have lights that use that new fangled e-lec-tric-ity. Ain't modern technology wonderful! :D  :-D

oh you Bama boys-well you guys are up town compared to tha old days when I grew up.
I remember crossing tha Trinity river, when it was in flood, in a covered wagon. Well now I doan guess it's gonna get to this much lying.
But, I did grow up without running water, indoor plumbing, or electricity. This was for tha first 5 years of my life. Then we moved to town. Town, well it was so small I was born three blocks from tha courthouse and was outside tha city limits.
My grandfather had a dairy during WWII, Tha RE and A got us some electricity during tha war--It was fer tha dang cows though. I usta go down to tha barn ta watch tha lightbulbs burn.
Had some hogs too. We use to slaughter em. Et everthang we could off em, if'n we woulda had a tape-recorder we woulda recorded tha squeels fer entertainent at night.
See how I can remember them days better than this morning.
Blessings

Telegraph? What the heck is that? We are always waitin on the Express Rider ta go by.

No really, welcome to the Old Days, much like you I was a believer in all things Automatic, My Military experience and expertise saved my hide on more than one occasion and gave me a healthy respect for life in general.
I tried that IPSC stuff and the them pistols with all kind of thangs hanging offen em' just seemed sorta impractical for a Practical competition!

and I darn near went broke trying to get all the guns for a three gun competition! and heck these here cowboy guns ain't near as deadly as that ol' AR-15..... Well that is what the lawgivers told me...... 8)

I still own a Kimber .45 and a Charter .44 spl.  But I have gradually sold off most of my autos and double action guns.  I now own more Colts/clones/Rugers/FA's than anything else.  A single action just feels more comfortable, like an old pair of shoes.  It just feels right to walk around the woods with a single action on your hip!  Also sold the MAC90 and the SKS and bought a couple of lever action rifles.  It feels right and you only hit with aimed shots anyway.  Government hasn't found out yet that a good man with a 30-30 is just as deadly as one with a "black assault rifle".  (probably more so as he will make each shot count)  They don't seem to be too bright about guns so let's not tell them.  I keep getting more back to the basics all the time!  Even went hunting a couple of times with my coach gun.  44 Man

44 Man, We had a solid demonstration of that on our range a few years ago.  Our Cowboy Action Club loaned our range to a group for an assault rifle match.  They had many targets scattered down the range for the setup, to knock each off its post, then proceed to the next etc. to clear the field. Since one of our club members had to be there to chaperone, and as he watched the shooters hose the area down and hit few targets for the ammo expended, he asked if he could run the course with his Cowboy Action lever action rifle for grins.  They said go ahead, and he cleaned it with one shot hits faster than any of the semi-auto competitors had.

Hmmm Well while that may be so, there must have been a bunch of poor shots at that assault rifle shoot..... You don't suppose it was the old
"Rifleman" versus the "Man with a rifle" thing do you? If I was unable to clean their setup with one shot hits with a semi auto I would probably just pack up and go home in shame.... I served with a few folks who believed that a semi auto or full auto rifle compensated for poor marksmanship
I would wager if the folks on that assault range were given the lever action the results would have been the same and that if your guy had been given one of their rifles he would have made them look pretty bad with it too...... I had a little additional "special marksmanship" training at extended ranges I think I would enjoy clang banging away at their knockdowns with a bolt action..... from a ways off  8)

William, yer so dang old you were probably standin' next to ol' Ben when he discovered electricity!  :-D  Seriously, a man(or woman!) proficient with a rifle, can be a serious threat with either a lever or a bolt. I like semi-autos, but the quick second shot has caused a lot of misses. Yep, I am still gonna hang on to my Bereta, and I am thinking on getting another 1911( I traded my last on off a few months ago), but I have decided to let the Black Rifle go. It was a tough decision, but I am getting a mint Rossi 92 in .44-40 and a new Blackhawk in .45 Colt in trade. I'm gonna use the Blackhawk for hunting and as backup for CAS. Simplify, simplify, simplify! :D
