When the bolt on my first series Mini went to heck, Ruger offered me a new one at factory invoice. I jumped, but upped the model. I got the stainless/synthetic, and as soon as I got my hands on it, I mounted a straight 4X scope on it and took it out. This one has the scoche heavier barrel profile. I've owned several prior to this, and shot quite a few others, but this particular rifle was a 1 1/2" gun, even at the end of a 20 round magazine. It didn't have the bird cage 'suppressor' on it, and I had it threaded 1/2"X28 and put a Smith Vortex on there. All it really did was make it bark louder and sharper, but it also didn't hurt a thing. I had to move the front sight back, and that took a bit of machining, and the original front sight busted coming off,and they're not offered as a replacement, so I got one of the cast jobs with the front sight/integral suppressor, cut the suppressor part off, and had the barrel turned to accept the sight band with a press on fit, then pinned it.
Worst part of the rifle was the trigger. Terrible, and if it'd been cleaned up and lightened just a bit (don't wanna go too far for fear of firing out of battery), it might've been easier to shoot and gimme better scores and more reliable hits.
Ruger knows how to make the things shoot, and why they've sat on their hands since the 70's when they first brought 'em out is a pisser. I'd LOVE to have a Mini that shot really, really well, and don't want to spend another Grand to make it do it.
