Sights on a Handi

I have always wanted a Handi rifle with sights and i am am leaning towards a .223 or .243 superlight as i think they would be just the ticket for my walking around the woods/ canoe/Kayak rifle. shots inside 100 yards typically.

I can't find it anywhere is the FAQ's that show a clear picture of the sights on the small bore handi's. I am limited to .270 cal for centerfire hunting in my area so as much as i would like a 30/30 or 45-70 they wouldn't do me any good other than at the shooting range and i already have enough range queen rifles as it is.

What current production handi's smaller than .270 come from the factory with sights. From what i can tell its only the superlights in .223 & .243 along with the hornet, are there any other options?

Are the factory handi sights fibre optic red/green or are they the painted black/white sights?

My 243 superlite came without sights, as well as a 357 extra barrel I bought for it. I made the 357 into a shorty and would like to have open sights on it but when I cobbled some on to try it I found out the comb was too high for my face anyway.  I could get another stock, but that would mean I would have to change both bbl. and stock when I change calibers. I decided to just shoot the 357 with a scope. A guy can get carried away with this changy changy stuff.

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.

Modern production(last 10yrs?) H&R Superlights come with Wiliiams WGOS rear sights, the sight on Garbs is an old style proprietary sight, of the smaller bores, only the Hornet, which has been discontinued, 223 and 243 Superlights come with sights, and not all models do, some are scope rail only, not even drilled and tapped for sights. Front sights are like Garbs, you can get a Firesight slide for the WGOS if you want to convert the rear sight to fiber optic, there's a pic on their website.

That .223 looks like exactly what i want for my kayak. nice compact set-up. I think that has made my mind up and the superlight is the route im going to go. They sell for just under $ 300 + tax in my area but the only store that stocks them is 2 hours drive away when its not snowing and im too busy with other things to go there right now. I will probably just have my local gun shop order me one in now that i've seen just how small they are. I want to keep the short plastic stock on mine though to keep the length down as much as possible. I looked at the WGOS sight on that Link Tim and it looks exactly the same as the sight on my 870 deer barrel so i might even be able to transfer over the fibre optic ramp since i hardly use the 870 barrel anyway.

It looks like the stars are aligning on this purchse damn these handi's are addictive arn't they

Believe me i wish i could buy anything firearm related for the prices you guys pay south of the border when i see the sale prices at places like gander mountian and cabelas which are constantly being e-mailed to me i can't beleive the difference in price even with the Canadian dollar being worth the same now.

I like the short stocks i already traded a full size synthetic stock for a youth stock with a member here a while back and its what i currently have on my .270 handi. Hunting in cold weather the shorter length of pull of the youth stocks put things back inline for me due to the heavy coat i wear or when kayaking the thickness of my pfd

I fit a set of Rem 700 open sights to a Handi barrel... open sights I got off ebay cheaper than factory Handi sights.  Also had the WG peep rear and 'shorty' ramp fitted to my daughter's 21" 20ga barrel.  Both work real nice and look way sleeker than the factory Handi sights.  JMHO.
