Wat to go eastbank!
We had backstrap and saute onions for supper tonight, that doe's gonna make some mighty fine vittles.
That is a really cool little rifle you've got there, I'm jealous! :o

GOOD SHOOTING!

Hey, you can't do that! Every reloading manual says a 44-40 is only suitable for small game and you need a super wazoo ultra magnum to kill a deer.

If the 44-40 is only good for small game why was it considered the ideal deer cartridge for woods hunting before the 30-30 came along.  I killed a deer some 40 years ago with a 38-40 so a 44-40 should do it better.

My point exactly. Nothing wrong with a 44-40! But the modern reloading manuals would tell you otherwise.

The 44-40 killed many a man and beast shot from a Henry repeater.  In it's day it was the best available.  Ask old Custer and his men.......

Nice rifles and nice doe too. ;D I think it's funny when the whizbang guys say you can't kill anything with the old cartridges like that. I've killed 'em clean with my 22 Hornet so I guess I'm on the same side of the fence as you. That's OK... the whizbang guys can keep their magnums and we'll keep ours... and our backstraps in the freezer. ;) ;)
