.445SM Range Report
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:09:29 PM »
Well I finally had chance to take the newly reamed .445 over to my range. Used some reloads I found at the Indy 1500 gun show. Only 445 brass I could find (come on midway/starline). Any way it was only 30 so a bit cool but wanted to try it out.

First three shots are the top three. Two pretty close and I pulled the other. Did a quick scope adjustment and shot the next four. Only 25 yards but it was offhand since I don't have a bench yet. Pretty happy with it and think it should shoot minute of buck just fine. Really happy with it.

Good shooting.  I'm happy you found the ammo.  Brass and ammo are hard to find now.  I've got barely enough, but need more brass.

It's kind of hard to express, but the .445 is like a .45-70 Short.  It's comfortable, a doer and a worker.  I like it.

I think I would call it a .44 Extra Long / 444M Short??, with the 454 Cas. as the 45-70 Short.
Oh well, at about the same dia. and bullet weight driven at a similar velo they should all do the same job no matter what we call 'em.
Glad you got that shooting, maybe try some 44Mag based loads in it to see if it works as well as the 357Maxi's do with shorter cases.
