As I recall, The older models of H&R used to share bases with 30/30, .44 mag, Hornet & shotguns. Recently having swapped around for a Hornet barrel and having more barrels than bases, I tried (carefully and indirectly) to adapt the Hornet to an SB1 base. I got primer swhich flowed back into the firing pin hole and even some perforated primers. I tried low pressure (22,000 to 25,000) loads with Lil' Gun and thicker primer cups...still the primers flowed some...so it was a lost cause. The .223 is likely to be more explosive..
