Anyone heard of Laurona Eibar shotguns?
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:31:58 PM »
I've got a chance to buy a Laurona Eibar Super Game 85 Over/Under Shotgun with Two Barrel Sets in 12 gauge and 20 Gauge. I've done some research but can't find much on this one.  It looks really nice.  It has really nice woodwork, nice checkering, and a nicely engraved receiver.  It includes 7 chokes also.  Any input would be appreciated.

Eibar is I believe the primary gun making region in Spain. Laurona would be the company name likely. Some Spanish shotguns are nice top of the line guns and some are just cheaply made and will never be any good. I honestly don't know which the one you are thinking of is.

Generally speaking the price tells the story. If ya want a well put together lower priced gun right now Turkey is the place to get one from. If it's in the over $2000 range from Spain it's a nice gun no doubt. If in the under $1000 range I'd not bet on it.

There are a lot of job shops in the Eibar area who make part but not all of the gun. In other words some outfits make barrels some make stocks, others make the action and so on. Somewhere along the line they get put together into a gun and how much care is used in doing that determines how nice the total package is.

The book value of this gun with only 1 barrel set is almost $1200 in used condition.  This gun includes both 20 and 12 gauge barrels and 7 chokes to go along with them.  I can buy this gun for around $800 from a private party that needs cash.  I am just a little skeptical because I can't find much info on the maker and the aren't any on gunbroker or gunsAmerica.

They build from good to vey utility grade guns. They have built guns with many American name on them like Winchester and Charles Daly thirty years ago. It all depends on model and gun broker prices are a good way to figure value. The ones built for Winchester have the least value of any Winchesters of that style
