7mm-08 Remington vs .284 Winchester
« on: December 22, 2003, 02:44:14 PM »
I am considering an Encore in either 7mm-08 Remington or .284 Winchester. However I have a few questions I need some help with.

First of all how does the rebated rim of the .284 Winchester work in a break action handgun like the Encore?

Second is the performance gain of the .284 Winchester over a 7mm-08 Remington in a 14" Handgun Barrel worth burning the extra powder?

Lastly, which would be your choice and why?

Thanks

hey larry, i bet ol xp hunter can give you some good info on the .284 in a handgun.
my thinking is that the .284 will gain on the 7-08 with heavier bullets, because of the extra capacity. i'm not sure exactly how much more cap. it has though. my opinion is that it would be great, but it may have a little extra recoil. i still don't think it would be a problem in the encore though. i think it's a win-win situation. :D
i'd say the .284 will give you extra range on bigger game like elk.
but, it's just opinions, since i havn't dropped the hammer on a .284.

I like the 284, I used to have a little Winchester M-100 in 284, and it was a sweet shooting round.

If anyone is interested, my friend, Ben, down in Texas, has a Blue Virgin Valley unfired barrel in 284 for sale.

Contact him at trapperbentx@aol.com.

Thanks for the replies. John, I am going to go Stainless if I do this project.

Thanks again.
