Chris, I agree with you, and have tried to lay my hands on as many quality blue N frames, as possible. However, this was a M-27 that I have had for a number of years (20+), and I had already had a gunsmith reshape the front sight, and install an orange insert. So, I figured that a drill & tap job would not further decrease the value. Besides, I have another M-27 8 3/8" new in the presentation box (not for sale), which had some effect on my decision.
However, you raise an interesting point. Since I am well past the fifty year mark, I have given a lot of thought to what will become of the firearms I have amassed over the years. I have one son and daughter who hunt, and two sons who do not. Although they all enjoy shooting.
What is the sense in preserving collectible items just so they can be auctioned off by uncaring heirs for their pecuniary value ? I am inclined to believe that vintage cars are to be driven, old wine is to be drank, and fine guns are to be shot.
So, if you see an old Geezer out in the field pursuing a whitetail with a bright blue S & W Magna Classic 1 of 3000, stop over and say Hello. My apologies for digressing from the main point of this thread.
