158 barrels
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:44:18 AM »
I like my 357 mag barrel except always wished it was a little lighter contour(mines a late model barrel). This morning i grabbed a 357 and 22 hornet 158 barrels in the classifieds. i have fitted several barrels and am hoping to get the 158  357 barrel to fit either a sb2 or a 77 vintage Topper frame with the small firing pin. Anybody done this? Seems like i remember Tim fitting a 158 30-30 barrel to a sb2 frame but can't find the thread.....

I just acquired a topper 30-30 barrel that locked up on one of my sb2 receivers without any modification and shot outstanding.

Mine fit fine, just be aware the M158 has a soldered underlug AFAIK, so don't hot rod em, Maxing a 357 should be fine, CW has a factory 158 357 Maxi I think.   ;)

YUP I do!!

I have had issue fitting these to SB2 receivers. Its been on two. Both are plagued with off center strikes of the firing pin. Currently its been OK. I lengthened the pin, I installed a Wolff spring and yesterday it fired 100% for about 30 shots.

Ditto.  Firing pin strike was off center - but the darn thing shot quite accurately with factory 30-30 ammo on the SB-2.  Headspace was just fine.  Looked a little funny with that extra standing breech sticking up - but functioned just fine.
