I was quite fond of an old 1917 S&W which was stolen, may the thief rot in hell. I mostly used the full moon clips but had some half moons also. No idea what brand but they were not expensive, maybe 50 cents each. The full moons are nice for a fast reload but are a bit bulky to carry, two half moons nest together to make a less bulky package and I've heard that was the original reason for them. I never had any problem snapping rounds into the clip but popping out the empties could be a bit hard on the fingers due to sharp case mouths. I made a simple tool for that, just two brass rods set into a short bit of 2x2 pine. I'd insert the shorter of the two rod into a case mouth so that the longer rod rested against the next case and give a twist and the case popped out.
I also used a lot of .45 Auto Rim brass just like any other revolver.
