1911 by Ithaca Gun Company in early 2011
« on: December 26, 2010, 03:12:34 PM »
Ithaca Gun Company announced the release of the new venerable Model 1911. Manufactured 100% right here in the USA at their factory in Upper Sandusky, OH.  The frame and slide are hand lapped to exacting fit for the owner that demands a precision firearm. The new Ithaca 1911’s will be available in the first quarter of 2011.  Ithaca is setting the prices starting at $1,299.

Now, here is a little bit of historical info that I did not know about...Between 1942 and 1945, Ithaca Gun Company made 382,000 of the .45-caliber Model 1911-A1 pistols for our military. During that time Ithaca received a Certificate of Appreciation from the federal government for the improved manufacturing procedure for the triggers.

Is there really a need for another manufacturer to put a 1911 into production...We shall see.  I figured that I would see Ruger put one into production first.  I guess that I am wrong again...Oh well, I am used to that being married for over 10 years now.

WOW married for just 10 years you just locked in your mariage pension.  Your a young pup at it, i'm pushing over 35 years of being wrong get used to it brother it doesn't get any better if not worse. I'm not even right with my yellow lab too called Max but really a twin to Marley.  But thats another story.

First bring on the competition to any company who wants to manufacture another 1911.  For they will stir the pot on making the others step up to the plate to make it right or get out of the kitchen. The sales will show who is doing it right. Let the bodies hit the floor.(manufacturers who will die)

I welcome any new manufacturers to producing the 1911's.  Even the old manufacturers who did it during the war too.  If they can step up again and offer us a decent quality 1911 that has the reliability and dependability i welcome them.  Most guys want just a decent flawless cycling shooter at an affordable price, like a plain jane but goes bang all the time.  We don't get that all the time no matter at any price.  But i'll keep an eye on the ithaca for sure too. I know i will collect and shoot many more 1911's, i guess we can't have too many right?   Sara Palin godbless her little heart, she says just reload, i say just swap the empty guns out for the loaded ones its faster.                                          Bill

With the swiss putting there quality into the astra 1911 i think the door is wide open for a Japanese or even a Russian 1911 too.  It wouldn't take much to match the Mack truck quality, rugged built norinco 1911a1 of the chinese, love it or hate it, its one affordable platform for a quality build.  I wish we could import them here again.  They do look awesome at marstar in canada.

At $1299 they are hitting a price point that might be a little steep for some to go for...Of course, if the quality is there, the price might just be in line with it...Hopefully someone here will get their hands on one and let us know how she goes...

Whitetailer:  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  That's a interesting note about the Ithaca Gun Company coming out with a (yet another) 1911, and I notice the price is right up there, too.  If that is the msrp I wonder if it will drop somewhat when they hit the shelves, although it sounds pretty much like a custom piece right from the manufacturer.

I did not know that the Ithaca Gun Company had produced so many 1911s during the war; from somewhere I had gotten the impression they had produced only a few, but at least being wrong I can stand in good company......

And who knows, possibly one more 1911 on the shelves might bring the price down a bit as Crazy believes.

Need to ask you a question - a while back I believe I read a post of yours on the S&W M&P 45 that you had tried/tested or evaluated (for your department????) and that you had spoken highly of it.  If I am correct, can you update us some more on your evaluation and what you think of the pistol now?  Thanks.

BTW - how's the snow in your neck of the woods????

I recently bought my first 45 ACP, a Colt.  Since then I went to a gun show in KY and saw quite a few WW II era Ithaca 45's.  I always liked Ithaca gun company and thought the 45's were pretty cool.  I may have to talk myself into  one.  They seemed pretty affordable.

Right now if i'm looking for a new 1911a1 and paying in the area were most of them seem to be ok.  I'm wanting a forged frame and slide no matter what.  If they don't have a forged frame and slide the price better be around $400+ then.  I refuse to pay between $750 to $1,200 for a cast frame/machined slide. If they want to up the anti they better have the quality thats all i'm saying. CZY
