I do not know nor will I speculate what king of father Mr. Rooney was to his children.  It is a well known fact, however,  that children generally learn their thinking and develop their attitudes from their parents.   If dad is a wife beater or cheat most likely so too will be his sons.  If mom is slovenly or a drunkard there is good chance her daughters will follow suit.

Care for your kids with love and kindness, be the best example that you can be,  for one day your kids may be taking care of you.

after 35 years, my wife and I still hold hands and I still open doors for her and generally treat her like a lady and our daughter told us the other day that she's learned a lot about relationships from us.  sadly, the parents of most of her friends are divorced.
I think our daughter will treat us well when we get old.

  I think you guys have something there.  Of course there are exceptions, but generally character is developed at home.  My wife and I have been married for over 54 years and we are still like Bugeye & wife.  that's the only way to go...
  I believe this so strongly that I have told my son & grandsons that if they are thinking seriously about a girl...they should look at the mother..cause that's about what they will be getting !
