It always saddens me when I hear of this.
It always makes me happy to know there are men who will step up to the plate when called upon.

It's interesting that these vets are being honored now. They were rejected by society after the war, and through the depression. If you want some sad reading, read about the forgotten man.

Also, this is a reminder of all the people who died in the war, but who had the potential to live at least to 2011.

Dont forget the Vietnam and Korean war vets. In recent times the public may have made up for a very very small fraction of the way they treated the vietnam vets when they returned from the war but the korean war and the men that fought there seem almost completely forgotten.

My dad was a vietnam vet and a damn good man. As high school graduation approached he told me he would disown me if I joined the millitary. He died of a strange illness when I was in my early 20's. We were told by the government that it had nothing to do with chemicals sprayed all over that country. The doctor had a different opinion as he said all of the cases of this illness he had seen also happened to be Vietnam vets.

My dad didnt even want the flag drapped on his casket or millitary honors at his funeral. I didnt understand his decision back then but I think I understand perfectly now. RIP dad. I miss you.

My buddy the vietnam vet was just diagnosed with parkinsons disease. Because so many vietnam vets have parkinsons, the VA presumes that it is due to his service, and he will be treated at no expense.

The Korean war vets are the most unsung. That was a terrible and bloody war.

My father was drafted and served in Korea as a rifleman in an infantry company. He was there over a year and a half and lost his right leg in a fire fight in May of 1953. He was a good man and raised four kids up right. And even though he had a hard time finding work he never complained. He felt damned lucky to be living. Until the day he died he picked out the tiny slivers of shrapnel that worked up to the surface of his skin. Nothing like watching that as a kid and getting a  dose of reality about war. I do now and always will hold in contempt those that pay lip service to supporting the troops and never lift a finger when they could help. Korea was a bloody terrible war and in the end no one cared about it or the soldiers who fought it.

They did a nice spot on him in the news here.
It said his was born in Missouri, but moved to OKC grew up there and enlisted there.
Anyone who doesn't respect our vets gets no repect from me.

I've shared before my dad was what he and others like him called the lucky ones.
He was a vet of WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. They said they were just lucky.
