Lee auto prime?
« on: March 06, 2011, 04:33:53 AM »
Is there anything needed to be changed switching from LP primers to SP primers when using the hand auto prime? So far all I 've loaded has used large primers and it works fine....loading some small primers now they often don't line up, I have to be very careful with pressure until I feel it slip into pocket and have to bump it around until it slips in. Gotta believe I need to change something for the small primers to align them better? On there web sight I cant find where it says anything about the need for different component.

You need the small primer tray.

???, with mine I change out the plunger too?
Ya just lift up on the lever, pull it out, then replace the plunger part?

The tray and the plunger (seating stem?) must both be changed.  However, the large plunger would not go thru the hole in the small primer tray.

You have to change trays and plungers, but as someone has said, it's easier to just set one up for each.  I painted the grip on one so I can keep up with which is which, (I'm addled brained in my old age), and don't want to dump primers in on top of the wrong ones, etc.

I used to change the tray and plunger from LP to SP but as inexpensive as the lee is I now have two. One set up for each size. It also gives me a backup, just in case.

as I said above I have one set for each primmer size. I have broken on of the little levers in the middle of a reloading session and  had to wait until the next day to get another complete autoprime to finish up. I ordered a few extra levers from Lee and can switch   parts if one breaks and keep going.

When I got mine, both trays were included with the plungers being in their respective trays.

It only takes a second to change the trays, My only maintenance has been to put a little white grease on the larger round cam where it contacts the lower part of the plunger.
This one was new in 86' i believe.
