Old model Blackhawk advice

A few years ago (10 or so) I found an old model blackhawk in a pawn shop chambered for .41 Mag.  Someone had chromed the barrel and frame and put a brass handgrip frame with tiger striped grips.  The thing (as I call it) shoots well enough, but spits the cylinder pin out after two or three shots.  It has not been converted to the transfer bar system, so I don't think Ruger has seen it for a long time.

What would you guys do with this? Why?

Right now it just sits quietly in the safe while the super redhawk sees regular use.

  What do you want from it?     The base pin is an easy fix with a new one from Belt Mt.  The rest...all up to you.  Bbls can be had by the better gunsmiths probably.   Returning it Ruger WILL result in it receiving the transfer bar system but as this is clearly a shooter not a collector piece, it's again, up to you.    Is the brass grip frame a factory one or an aftermarket?  If factory, i might be interested.  :D

I definately do not want it converted, when I have carried it I loaded 5 cylinders, and had the hammer over the empty cylinder.  Belt Mountain?? never heard of em.  cylinder is true enough, and lock up (at full cock) is tight with no end shake.  New pin, drop in?? what about the latch that holds the pin in place?

I like the caliber, it's just odd enough these days that it makes a statement.  Kinda like the .45 Colt used to.

I'll search Belt MTN and report back.  I've only fired a few rounds through it, but remember it seemed to be reasonably accurate.  I'm not sure about the grip frame, it was well fitted who ever did it.

I'd buy a current production base pin latch assembly (three parts; left side, right side and spring).
I'd inspect the original base pin's "notch".  Often a few strokes with a small round file can restore the notch and then
installation of a new "latch" will resolve the issue.

If this very inexpensive fix does not rectify the situation then, by all means, contact Kelye at Belt Mountain for a new base pin.
Actually, a current production base pin will also fit, however the spring loaded plunger in the end, meant to press the transfer bar away from the firing pin, will be eventually damaged and may cause a brief "lock up" of the revolver until the loose parts are removed.
Don't ask how I know these things.....  ::)

Flatgate probably solved your problem, as the problem is usually the base pin doesn't seat properly.  Take the latch out and insert the base pin - you'll probably see just a tad of the base pin in the frame hole - just take a round file (3/16) to the base pin and deepen the base pin channel until it fits properly and your "launching" days should be over.
