I fired my .308 pistol barrel for the first time today.  Wasn't really out for accuracy testing, more just to get the feel for the recoil.  I'm not really a whimp when it comes to shooting, but this cambering in the pistol barrel had me scared.  After letting the first round fly I had a pretty good smile on my face.  Discovered that I actually liked it.  Someone here said that shooting the .308 out of the Encore is a lot like shooting a hot .44 Magnum round out of a revolver.  Well, that someone was right.  I've had no problems with hot factory and handloads out of my Ruger SRH, and this was no different.  

The only drawback I saw was my left middle finger.  I think I need to loose it.  Seems like it and the trigger guard just don't like each other.  Guess which one wins all the time.  

I fired only six rounds to see what it was like.  They were yellow box Remington loads (150gr. FMJ).  I'm wondering if my handloads will recoil less, the ones loaded with 130gr. PSPs.

Congrats Ranger,
  I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. That trigger guard spur can be a humdinger can't it. I either point my index and middle finger out front
in the double fist or just cup my left hand down below. This works fine.. No need to amputate.

I wear either a Past shooting glove on my off hand, it covers well past the knuckle or I tape up my finger before I shoot to protect it.
I also found putting the off hand on top of the scope, rather than on the grip, prevents that nasty trigger spur bite.

wal-mart carries 10x leather shooting gloves for about 10 bucks they work great for the 308 encore. the trigger guard was the only problem i have with my 308. these gloves will solve this and wont affect your shooting.

Handloads may reduce the recoil some.  I shoot a 30.06 and I think the recoil is less with my handloads than the factory offerings.

I had the same problem with my 7-30 Contender. If I shoot off of a bag and put both hands on the grip, it tears the skin off of my knuckle. It didn't take me long to figure out to put one hand on the grip and one on the forearm.
