Lightweight ring set up for .22 l.r. G2
« on: March 12, 2011, 11:30:38 AM »
My family of Contender barrels has grown now to 3:  12" .44 Mag, 14" .22 l.r., and 14" .223.  Since my .44 will have some recoil I went with Warne Maxima base and rings for that set-up.  It's currently wearing a Leupold M8 2X.  For the .223 I'm planning on Warne stuff again but a Leupold or similar in a 2-8X range.

The .22 l.r. barrel has me stumped.  I'll mainly be plinking with it but may tote it along when my son gets older and starts hunting.  Another 2X scope wouldn't be bad but I was also consider a red dot.  Not sure about the rings either.  I want to stay with aluminum if I can.  I was thinking of an aluminum weaver-style base and Burris Zee rings.

Any thoughts?  How about your .22 l.r. barrel, how's it set up?

Thanks!

I have a 14" that is set up with a 2.5-10.5x40  rifle scope for bench work.  I have a 10" octagon with open sights.  I've got the extremes covered so now that I read your post you've got me thinking about something in the middle. Hmmmm

As to your question, just start with open sights for a while and then move into something else later.  No sense in rushing things.  ;D ..........or maybe a red dot.  ;)

P.S.  I have a Leupold 2.5-8 EER on my 223 and coudn't be happier.
Lord, please help me to be half the man my dogs think I am.
