Fla motorists illegally detained at toll booths.

Tampa, Florida -- Meet Joel Chandler, who just paid his $1.00 toll on the Polk Parkway with a $100 bill, he is not allowed to leave unless he provides personal info to the toll taker. The toll taker tells Chandler this is what happens when they get large bills. She says this is what they have to do.
Chandler says to the toll taker, "So I'm being detained?" She says yes sir.
It is a policy the Florida Turnpike authority instituted for people who paid with $20, $50 or $100 bills. After it happened once, Chandler kept testing the system and taped his encounters as he went through the toll booths.
One time a toll taker told him, she wouldn't give him his change unless he gave her the information. Chandler replied, "So I'm being detained." He asked why he was being detained but never got an answer.

toll booths are funny places , guess they don't want to teach the trolls to count money  ;D
I once got pulled for not paying a toll. It was before smart tag and we had to get a rec. . I had gotten one  ;) cop ask why I thought he pulled me to which I said I didn't have a clue . He says you ran the toll . So I ask how he figured that since the lady gave me a rec. he looked it over several times handed it back and walked away .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Never could grasp the concept of paying to use something we paid to build. Sorta like paying rent on your own house!

These toll Folks are brutal
I deal with them a lot and are pains
The state also makes you think with a ($28) easy pass purchase you
save on every toll
come to find out the 2 most used by the Tampabay people are not on the
list of discounted tolls
You do however go through some without having to stop
but I say they should boot the Lease People and change the
System I don't like these people for many reasons
one day I'll post Now is too soon

I hate toll roads, glad we don't have any here in Alaska.

When I go to Florida every year I get to know the Toll system.  I ride a bike down there, and when I pull up to a toll booth I never have the money in my hand.  I pull up and stop, then I usually have trouble finding neutral.  I stand up, raise my helmet visor, and at this point the toll collector starts talking.  I wave my hand in a negative manner yelling very loudly, "I'm wearing ear plugs and I can not hear you".  I pull off my gloves, stash them above the handle bars.  Then I pull out my wallet, from my hip pocket.  I open the wallet and extract the money.  Hand it to the anxiously awating toll person, and the gate opens.  I then put my wallet away, sit down, put on my gloves, pull down my visor, pull the clutch lever, and rev the engine with straight pipes that blast loud noise between the booths.  Kick the gear lever, rev the engine and let out the clutch.  As I pull away I laugh at how throughly annoyed the toll collector was.

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I had the displeasure to meet a few toll booth workers at a party, they work on the PA turnpike, they actually take their job seriously, as if they are of the elite class, and some of the salaries I was quoted would put them in that class, one of them actually went to work with an 8 foot Boa Constrictor around his waist, believe it or not, and he thought that was "cool"............................................steg

Guzzijohn:  I have a Honda 750 Arrow Scout, (thats the retro looking one) that I keep down in Florida.  I have a Honda 1300 VTR (The R stands for retro) here in Alaska.  They look almost identical, both are black.

NO way would I fill out their form. I would have waited for the police. Likely they would've neede an officer or two to sort traffic out after the backup.

Try this...

I have PAID for the PRIVILEGE of riding on the Troll's road.  In this circumstance, I do not feel bound to abide by posted speed limit.

I can not say about currently but Kansas has one toll turnpike and was/is? patrolled by the state highway patrol but with officers specifically assigned to that duty. Years back I had a chance to visit with one of the patrolman (not when pulled over ;D) and he said they were instructed to not make stops for speeding unless it was totally out of line for conditions or the driver was doing something else stupid. It use to be in the 60s and 70s that the turnpike was not patrolled from 12am until 6am. I use to use it more back then and if I was on it after midnight their would be semi trucks  rolling 85+ and a few in the 90s mph. Maybe dukkiller knows more about how it is patrolled currently.

I once paid for a pack of cigarettes years ago with pennies. He said he only took rolled pennies. I asked him to call the police. I waited for the police to arrive. The store kept the pennies for the smokes and the clerk went to jail for two traffic warrants outstanding. The owner of the store apologized afterward. Anyway, tolls are a ripoff. We have them in TX but I rarely use them. If my family lived closer I would never use them. They are all by a pass or LP photo so there are no toll booth folks, thankfully. I guess I am in the majority because I hardly see anyone on them.

The rise and frequency of Toll cameras, Red Light cameras, and Street Scape cameras is disturbing on the one hand when it is used as Revenue Generation and gratifying on the other, when they catch some bad guy.
