I just have the small bore .22 convertible but I've read some pretty impressive reviews, by such magazines as Guns & Ammo, about the big bore Rough Rider's. Particularly the .45 LC. I'd say they are well worth the money from all I've read.

thanks for replying most people must not have one or have tried them. i tend to be ruger fan particularly revolvers but find them a bit expensive.

I looked at one when they first came out and was very impressed!  Had I not had a more pressing place for my money, I would have bought that one.  It is still on my list of guns I would like to own.  Heard lots of good things about them.  44 Man

Well I had not seen the Heritage RR in person hopefully they didnt put that ugly UGLY safety on the left side of the frame like the little 22 caliber versions, I think I could find a more traditional 45lc SAA style pistol for less without the unsightly little safety thing.

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist like that..

But how do they stack up on hot loads. Or are they just for cowboy loads.

I've handled one and was very favorably impressed.  They look good and feel good.  No, no little safety just a transfer bar mechanism.  Not for hot loads, it's a Colt size clone.  I don't feel that's a handicap though, as a 255 gr SWC at 1000 fps will do anything you ask of a .45 colt.  Don't really need more unless you are after the big bears.  Anyway, back to the subject.  It is a nice looking, well made revolver and I'd be pleased to own one.  44 Man

I'd looked pretty heavily at them before I bought my blackhawk and talked with several users.  No real issues reported, although the final factor sending me in the direction of the blackhawk is I intended to use it for hunting and the adjustable sights finished it.  By all accounts through, pretty good guns.

Wow I didn't know they were making a centerfire.  My buddy has a .22 convertible, a little rough around the corners but a great buy and shoots good.  What does the .45 go for?

King , Buds has them listed for $368 shipped free, which has me pondering on one of these now lol  ;D

But after buying a "Z" 1964 Marlin 336-44  44 magnum lever action I doubt the budget could handle another mouth to feed ( sold all my 45 lc reloading materials to my old man when I sold him my Uberti golden boy rifle) So I may just have to sit on my hands and read yalls range reports ;)

And it isnt like I'm hurting for 44 fun or anything. Top to bottom: Marlin 444s , 336-44 , and left to right: Charter Arms 44 spcl 3" barrel and the Ruger SBH 44 mag

Default Required, I did the same thing years ago.  Sold all my .45 colt stuff and said I was only going to go with .44's.  Surprise!  I have more .45lc guns now than .44s!  At least you can go over to your dad's and use the equipment if you need to.  44 Man

Good buddy of mine has a rough rider in .45 colt.  Says it shoots well and he's had zero issues with factory loads.  He doesn't reload himself.  If you are going to reload for it, you will have lots of options.  If not, I'd definitely avoid Buffalo Bore ammo and probably stick to cowboy loads, which as 44man pointed out are nothing to sneeze at.  In my .45LC Blackhawk, I can still hit ya at 100 yards and it's going fast enough to vaporize my leads on a 10x10 gong.  ;)

nice. I am thinking i would like another 45lc which seems to be the one everyone is getting but finding an affordable 45 lc rifle might be bit hard and ammo isn't easy either anyone ever had any experience with the 357mag in this pistol

Nice little carbines available for $225 from CDNN in their flier.  Someone got one just the other day, so I think they are still available for that price.  ;)  I have an H&R .45 LC Buffalo Classic and love the little beast.  Has a nice thump and easy to carry with the 20" barrel.  ;)  I bought mine as a companion piece for my New Model Blackhawk Convertible in .45 LC/.45 ACP.

This was the lastest guy to get one of the CDNN ones on the H&R area.

bought a rough rider the other day
Gander MT. When I was there[way too often] the previous owner was there, He fired 180 rds through it but you could not tell it was fired.
I bought the brass from him !
Anyway, this thing is very very impressive  for the money. Paid 279 .00
The bluing is close, not there but close, to the old Colt Royal blue and the cylinders are even chamferred in front for holster ease.
Will shoot it soon but very impressed!

Here's mine. Seems to be a well finished product and, after a couple hundred rounds, has settled in to be a good shooter.
