Remington Model 7 .243
« on: March 12, 2011, 03:17:11 PM »
I picked up one in .243 with an 18 1/2" barrel.  Do they shoot the 100 grain bullets ok?  What ammo. does yours like?

There are a nice little gun. Mine does just fine with 100 gr. Hornady interlocks using 43 gr. of IMR 4250, that gets about 2870 '/sec. Also it does well with 70 gr. Nosier BT's. With the shorter barrel you will lose velocity but not the accuracy, at least that I have found. I just ordered a 6x21 target scope to replace the 3x9 that's on it now and I think that I'll be getting even better results from her. It's a great little gun, great to carry around and fun to shoot

mine likes 100 grn rem core loks so well i never really worked up a load for it.mine is very picky about barrel heat tho.when sighting it in you have to wait between shots to make sure the barrel is always dead cold.

My BILs rifle loves 100gr bullets. H414 & H4831 have been our go to powders when shooting heavier bullets. Sierra Gamekings are what we shoot now. We used to shoot 100gr Hornady RNs but can't find them around here any longer. Don't overlook the CorLokt bullets.

I just hope it's accurate.  My previous Model 7 in 7mm-08 wasn't.  Google research has plenty of stories about Model 7s that aren't.  I'm hoping I'll get lucky.

the odd thing about mine was, the first shot was always dead center.if you didnt wait 10 minutes before the next one, it would be off 2 or 3 inches.i never bedded it or tried to accurize it.i so rarely needed a second shot to kill a deer it really didnt matter

That is my only complaint about my .260 also. The thin ,light barrel warms up so fast that you realy have to wait between shots when you sight one in.If I didn't, the point of impact would change dramaticly  by thr 3rd rnd. And I also found that it shot better with a dirty barrel.
