Need Cowboy 45 Colt load.

Howdy,

I have run out of my 200 grain RNFP lead bullets and my source has been backordered for 10 months. 

Currently have 2000, 255 gr RNFP lead bullets and I need to use these up.  They will be used for cowboy action shooting.  Need a low power load.  These will be used in Ruger New Vaquero and 24 inch Win lever gun. 

Again, looking for a low power load that is accurate. 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

 I've always liked 8 grains of unique. good luck.

A load recommended by a shooter of renown for speed and accuracy is a 250 gr. cast bullet over 5.3 gr. of Titegroup.

Let us know what you have for powders. I like Trail Boss for low power loads and Unique for mid range loads. Unique works well for low power also but is much dirtier than Trail Boss. The Lyman 49th shows 5.2 grains start and 5.8 grains max for Trail Boss with the 255 grain bullet. That starting load is VERY mild and pleasant to shoot.

The IMR website shows a range of 4.5 to 5.8 grains of Trail Boss behind a 250 grain bullet.  I assume the 255 would not be very different.  I use 5 grains of Trail Boss with 250 grain RNFP for Cowboy Shooting.
