First South Carolina then ..... New York City

A bit of history I would imagine most don't know about.

On Jan. 7, 1861, two days before Mississippi became the second state to secede, Mayor Fernando Wood delivered a message to the Common Council, the city’s governing body, proposing that New York assert its independence as a “free city” by “disrupt[ing] the bands which bind her to a venal and corrupt master” — that is, the Union.

The same thought that accompanied Germans of Texas forming a militia and refused to fight for the South or Sam Houston resigning as Govenor of Texas in disagreement to secession.
I might add that the vast majority of NY State reguards NYC as another country--even today + they wish they were.

Okay... understandable...    But can you imagine the New York City State petitioning to become part of the Confederacy!?      That's just to horrible to imagine!
