What do you need to survive a dirty bomb or some radiation?
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:40:43 PM »
I noticed with the Japanese Nuclear situation that people are getting iodine.  My question is simple:  What can a person get that if a dirty bomb went off where radiation might hit your area or if a nuclear plant near you had something happen, what can you do to help your situation out?  Is it iodine?  What else?

Thanks.

Alot of variables. Depends on how many/much rads and roentgens (sp?) are absorbed at what rate for how long, bomb/event yield, how close. The potassium iodide tablets could be agood idea if you lived in a big (target) city, or near a nuke plant. I'm not an expert, just kind of going by memory of NBC training so many years ago. Unless within 50 miles of an event within your parameters, I don't think I'd worry much.

1. Get away.
2. Stay inside (radiation falls like rain)
3. Avoid rain (it's contaminated)
4. Get Kelp tablets from a health food store ( high in KI easy to absorb)
5. Drink a lot of water
