10mm barrel
« on: March 11, 2011, 02:58:25 PM »
New to the site, was refereed to it from a few people on the Texas Hunting Forum,  and think the site is great. Never knew there were so many Handi fans.

My next project is going to be a 10mm Handi Barrel. I have done a .45 acp and 6.5 dutch barrel before, I stubbed both of them myself. After reading the forum, I am thinking of having a heavy .223 barrel rebored, what do you think is a better process. Stub or reboring?

Either way is good. I've got a stubbed 32-20 that was built by a member here on the site and it's a great shooter. There are a few guys on here that have rebored barrels that shoot great too. Wayne York has done some top notch work for a few handiholics around here.
Do you have any pics of your work? We like pics ya know. ;D ;D

Hi Jim,
I've been thinking of building a 45acp. How accurate is your one ?

The 45 acp was the first barrel I stubbed, I used a green mountain blank and was very surprised how it came out. It is a great shooter, it is capable of better accuracy than I am. I went with this over the 45lc because I had so much .45 acp brass and already reload it. I have experimented with some loads and have taken one hog with it. Was using a 230gr hard cast bullet,  on top of 7gr of unique,  but lately have been experimenting with some 300gr bullets and 7gr of universal. velocity is very consistent at just under 1200fps. It doesn't show any signs of excess pressure and cases extract with no problems, groups are around 2 to 2.5 inches at 50 yards using a cheap red dot scope I bought from Wally World.

Jim,

Why 10mm over 9mm?  I'd love to have a 9mm handi for a suppressor platform.

thanks,
-Kyle

I shoot 10mm more than anything else now and think it will make a great brush gun, better than my .45. I have been a big fan of the 10 since it came out.

I decided to go with the re bore on this project. This will be the first time, I have gone this direction, I have contacted Clearwater re boring, their price is $250 for the re bore to 10mm. I will chamber and install the extractor. Does anyone have any experience with them or can you recommend someone else?

thanks
